In The Navy
On Friday morning 06 March 2009, the Brazilian Navy Ship (BNS) Garcia D’Avila arrived in Simons Town and on board was a Panasonic KXTDA phone system installed by Portsmouth Communications whilst the ship visited Portsmouth Naval Base in 2008.
Our unusual remit was to replace the existing Mitel SX50 system that had seen better days and been through the wars, quite literally.
With 104 extensions and connectivity to any country’s telephone network no matter where they may visit, all to be installed within two weeks of order, our work was cut out.
Due to the mobility required and the necessity for a supported system, Portsmouth Communications also provided a full system maintenance hardware kit and engineering training to the ratings on board. This was no easy task taking into consideration the language barriers. We have to say though that their English skills were far superior to our Brazillian ones!
As all our engineers are MOD security cleared we were the natural choice for working in this environment.
We were delighted to receive this challenging but interesting contract and wish the Garcia D’Avila bon voyage!
